UPDATE: FANS were kept waiting for nearly four hours in the rain for Madonna’s invite-only show in Melbourne overnight, and they’re not impressed.

The doors at The Forum Theatre were meant to open at 8.30pm but Guy Oseary then told the soaking fans, many who had camped overnight since Monday, that they not be open before 10.30pm and the pop singer would most likely not be on stage before 11.30pm.

The queue stretched up Hosier Lane into Flinders Lane with the doors eventually opening close to midnight.

A fan named Kate told 3AW she got fed up and left before Tears of a Clown show started.

“It got to 11.38pm and I thought, ‘I’ve got to be up in four hours, I’d better go home’,” she said.

“Maybe 10pm at a stretch, that would be OK, she is Madonna she can let us wait a little bit but no, it was nearly midnight.

“I’m disappointed, the last time I saw her was 23 years ago.”

The curtain finally rose at almost 1am and Madonna told the crowd to “not expect a polished performance” before the show began.

Listener Mike told 3AW his two daughters attended, the eldest having to start work at 7am this morning.

“They weren’t very happy at all,” Mike said.

The concert finished at 3.15am.

Fans said the delay was because Madonna was rehearsing the show up until the last minute.

Superfans, wearing Madonna T-shirts, passed the time performing singalongs in the street.

Starting late is becoming a habit for Madge, who was an hour and a half late for a show in Auckland last week, and three hours late to shows in Nashville and Atlanta earlier this year.

Taking to the stage in a pink top hat and clown make-up, the emotional star dedicated her song Intervention to her son Rocco, 15, who refuses to move back to New York to live with her.

Madonna is embroiled in a bitter legal battle with her ex-husband, Guy Ritchie, who is fighting her in court for custody of Rocco.

The Queen of Pop poured much off her sadness into her intimate show, peppering emotional renditions of her hits with cheeky jokes and banter.

The 57-year-old opened the show with her comedy skits before performing Drowned World/Substitute for Love from her 1998 album Ray of Light.

Wearing an extravagant clown outfit with a billowing yellow top and pink and white striped socks, the mum-of-four rode a tiny tricycle around the stage to the delight of superfans.

She also stunned by belting out Borderline and Take a Bow — songs she has rarely performed live.

Concertgoers flew in from around Australia and the world — including a couple from Germany — to see Madge.

The fans at the Forum show could only win tickets via Madonna’s fan club or through Rebel Heart tour sponsor Telstra.

Names were printed on tickets to stop the money-can’t-buy tickets being scalped.

Earlier last night, Madonna announced that her Tears of a Clown show would be filmed and included on the Rebel Heart Tour DVD.

She was reportedly spotted dining at Il Solito Posto.

At a rehearsal overnight in the Hisense Arena she performed the following songs: I’m So Stupid, Nobody’s Perfect, Don’t Tell Me, Borderline, Love Spent, Joan of Arc, Take a Bow and Holiday.

Madonna posted photos of her dressed as a clown on her social media, as well as a video of her riding a tiny bicycle in clown shoes. Sources say the video was shot in New Zealand not Melbourne.

Madonna will perform at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday and Sunday before moving to Brisbane and Sydney next week, where the Rebel Heart world tour will end.
