Extreme weather conditions put Taylor Swift’s Sydney shows at risk

Taylor Swift’s Sydney shows could be affected by extreme weather with a severe thunderstorm warning for this weekend.

Taylor Swift is set to hit the stage in Sydney on Friday, but weather alerts have left fans questioning whether the superstar may have to delay the concert.

The Bureau of Meteorology has given a severe thunderstorm warning for this Friday and Saturday, which is the first two dates of Swift’s Sydney shows at Accor Stadium.

The singer is due to perform four sold-out concerts from Friday to Monday to 80,000 Swifties each night.

Fans have taken to social media to share their concerns, especially about Friday, with lightning warnings putting the show at major risk.

“I’d say the only cancellation reason would be lightning. No one wants TayTay to die during an outdoor concert in Sydney!” wrote one fan. “It’s at Accor, so it’s not fully under cover. She’s performed in the rain before so it would have to be very heavy rain and lightning for her to postpone. She’s only postponed two shows during this tour, I believe.”

It’s not the first time Swift’s Sydney concerts have faced harsh weather conditions.

The Sydney Reputation Stadium Tour show was clouded by rain and lightning, and the singer got drenched while performing. However, despite the lightning danger which delayed the concert, Swift did not cancel the show.

In a Nova radio interview at the time, Swift said the Sydney concert was “so much fun because we all just danced together in the rain”.

“I’m not going to cancel a show no matter what, unless physically they tell me that none of us can be on stage,” she said.

However, Swift did cancel an Eras Tour performance last year.

In November, Swift postponed her show in Argentina due to extreme weather.

“I love a rain show but I’m never going to endanger my fans or my fellow performers and crew,” she announced to fans on Twitter.

“We’ve rescheduled tonight’s Buenos Aires show for Sunday due to the weather being so truly chaotic it would be unsafe to try and put on this concert.”

Meanwhile, during her final show in Melbourne on Sunday, she revealed she would be revising her rule of never performing the same acoustic ‘Surprise Song’ more than once on her Eras Tour.

“I want to be as creative as possible with the acoustic set moving forward and I don’t want to limit anything or say, “If I played this song, I can’t play it again,” she said.

“So, from now on, I don’t want to take any paint colours out of the paintbox or tools out of the toolbox.

“I want to be able to play songs more than once if I feel like it and I want to be able to make changes to songs. Does that sound OK?”
