The best (and worst) Xmas songs
MARIAH Carey makes an obscene amount every time her Christmas hit is played. But believe it or not, she hasn’t topped the list of highest sellers this year.
MARIAH Carey makes an obscene amount of money every time her Christmas hit is played.
However her hit track All I Want For Christmas is only third on the list of Christmas-time tunes that are expected to generate the most money this year, according to The Sun.
The biggest winners are set to be Black Country band Slade who are expected to earn a whopping $1.02 million from their hit Merry Xmas Everybody.
Hot on their heels are London Irish Celtic rockers, The Pogues, whose song Fairytale of New York, featuring Kirsty MacColl is predicted to make $821,000.
Carey then features with All I Want For Christmas expected to rake in $772,000.
Rounding out the top five are Bing Crosby’s White Christmas ($673,000) and Wham’s Last Christmas ($616,000).
Is it any wonder that pop stars like Kylie Minogue and Ariana Grande are putting out Christmas songs with the hope that they might be an unlikely cash cow.
Grande has released an EP called Christmas and Chill with the lead track Wit it This Christmas. The pop star sings about whether you are down for her “milk and cookies”.
Minogue has managed to combine with a number of singers, including her sister Dannii, for a whole Christmas album, including her 2000 hit Santa Baby.
The Minogue sisters combined on the track 100 Degrees — which is a very Aussie-themed Christmas track.
Macy Gray gets points for managing to get gun control into her song All I Want For Christmas.
It seems most singers have tried their hand at Christmas songs over the years from Ricky Martin to Gloria Estefan. See what you think of these festive tracks.
AND OF COURSE THE CHRISTMAS QUEEN — MARIAH!
