Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker shares story of ‘savage’ running injury
An Australian rocker shared disturbing pictures of an injury he copped just a kilometre away from finishing a half marathon.
Superstar Australian musician and producer Kevin Parker, 36, has suffered a sickening marathon injury – but the star says the show goes on.
Parker, the man behind ARIA-winning psychedelic rock outfit Tame Impala, confirmed the news to fans on social media overnight, posting a series of disturbing pictures on Instagram taken from his hospital bed.
Parker suffered a broken hip just 1km from finishing a half marathon.
“Fractured my hip,” he wrote.
“Tried to run a half marathon on what turned out to be an existing stress fracture. Whoops.
“Made it to within 1km of the finish line.”
Astonishingly, Parker said an upcoming tour of Mexico and South America would still go ahead, despite it beginning this Friday (local time) with a performance in Mexico City.
“That’s life, I guess. All shows in Mexico and South America going ahead as planned. I’m not quitting on you guys,” he said.
Images and a video of a CAT scan shared by Parker show a significant hip fracture along the femoral neck near the hip joint, while other post-surgery X-rays show large surgical screws.
Fans and fellow artists alike flooded the comment section with well wishes and gratitude for the fact the tour will still go ahead.
Fellow Western Australian and Fremantle Dockers star Nat Fyfe described his efforts as “savage”.
