Sabrina Carpenter slammed for acting out X-rated move onstage: ‘Children are watching this’
Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has been criticised for simulating a “distasteful” move at her recent LA concert.
Online critics were not impressed with Sabrina Carpenter after she appeared to act out an X-rated sex move at her most recent LA concert.
Clad in a lingerie-esque costume, the pop star performed in front of a sellout crowd at the Kia Forum on Monday night when she dropped to her knees on the stage and appeared to simulate oral sex with her microphone.
Since her Short n’ Sweet Tour kicked off on September 23, Carpenter has acted out a different sex position or connotation at every show while performing her hit single Juno.
But it was the 25-year-old’s latest antics on night three of her LA shows that has caused major uproar online with many calling it “distasteful” and “vulgar”.
“Sabrina is one step away from starting an OnlyFans at this point,” one critic commented on X, while another wrote, “Can she stop sexualising herself for 1 minute? LITERAL children are watching this.”
“Sabrina Carpenter and her sexual positions giving me the ick,” another echoed, while another claimed the former Disney Chanel star was “not an artist for kids anymore”.
But there were some fans who want the singer to keep the antics rolling as she sings Juno – a song about being so attracted to someone that you want them to get you pregnant.
“Sabrina Carpenter’s juno positions are just becoming more and more unhinged and I’m actually so here for it,” one commented, with another fan-girling, “I’m obsessed with Sabrina Carpenter and her freaky positions on her tour. Please girl let’s be besties!!”
Carpenter also copped backlash earlier on in her tour at her Philadelphia concert for once again re-enacting a racy scene this time on top of a bed brought onto the stage.
While performing her song Bed Chem for fans – a song in which she fantasises about the chemistry between her and crush – Carpenter opted to gyrate on a bed with one of her male dancers before a curtain fell to reveal their sexy silhouettes removing their clothes and falling to the mattress.
“I CANNOT be the only person that finds her doing this in front of an audience full of children inappropriate,” one commented on X as a clip of the performance went viral. “Oh this is disgusting,” added another.
“Im supposed to go with my mum,” one fan said, while another said they were at the concert with their mum who “side eyed me during this part”.
Carpenter is well aware of her critics, but that’s not going to stop her from putting on a show.
“You’ll still get the occasional mother that has a strong opinion on how you should be dressing. And to that I just say, don’t come to the show and that’s OK,” she told Time Magazine last month.
“It’s unfortunate that it’s ever been something to criticise, because truthfully, the scariest thing in the world is getting up on a stage in front of that many people and having to perform as if it’s nothing. If the one thing that helps you do that is the way you feel comfortable dressing, then that’s what you’ve got to do,” she said.
As for what her family thinks of her risqué performances, Carpenter says they back her 100 per cent.
“They literally don’t care. My fans online are like, ‘I can’t believe she’s bending over in front of her grandparents!’ I’m like, girl, they are not paying attention to that. They’re just like, I can’t believe all these people are here,” she concluded.
