Travis Scott ‘had no idea’ of horror at Astroworld festival killing fans

Travis Scott is said to be “beside himself” after learning of the horror unfolding during his performance that left at least eight dead.

US rapper Travis Scott is highly distraught after his Astroworld Music Festival turned into a deadly stampede that killed at least eight people and left hundreds more injured in Houston, Texas on Friday night.

A police investigation has now launched to try and determine what caused the two-day event to turn into a “concert from hell” – with authorities confirming claims of “needle spiking” within the crowd too.

Scott is said to be “beside himself” at the devastating turn of events, with a source close to the star claiming he had “no idea” what was going on in the 50,000 person crowd.

“He stopped the concert to make sure people were okay,” a source told the NY Post.

“There is video of him carrying on when one person was carried off, but he didn’t realise what was going on.

“When he did he stopped the concert.”

The musician – who has issued a statement revealing he is “absolutely devastated” by the horror turn of events – is also said to be “in tears” after discovering the extent of the incident.

“He’s really upset — he had no idea what was going on, he was on stage performing,” the source added.

“He’s beside himself, I’ve never heard him like that. He was in tears.”

Kylie Jenner – who is currently expecting their second child – is said to be “by his side right now and supporting him”.

The pregnant make-up mogul attended the disaster two-day event with their three-year-old daughter, Stormi, who was seen watching Scott perform from afar shortly before the crowd began to “compress” towards the front of the stage.

“People started to fall out, become unconscious and it created additional panic,” Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said during a press conference.

At least 23 people were rushed to a hospital, 11 of whom were in cardiac arrest. Some 300 people were also treated at a field hospital on the scene.

At least eight concertgoers died among the chaos that overwhelmed medics attempting to save lives.

The age of one victim remains unknown, but other victims were aged 14, 16, two aged 21, two 23 and one 27, Fox News reports.

“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” a statement from Scott issued on Twitter reads.

“My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.”

“Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life,” his statement continued.

“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need.

Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. Love You All.”

A police investigation has now launched with officials warning not to “buy into the rumours” sweeping social media.

“Nothing is off the table in terms of persons who were there, people who fainted, people who were transported,” Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña said Saturday.

“As far as a crowd surge, all of those things are being looked at. It’s way too early to draw any conclusions.”
