One Direction star revealed as 'God of Glastonbury' over TV act

A very famous pop star has been revealed as the man behind a simple act that made a lot of Glastonbury revellers very happy.

The giant festival was taking place at the same time as the England v Slovakia Euro 2024 game - which spelled frustration for many Glastonbury attendees, keen to keep track of the game with nowhere to tune in.

But clips circulating on social media showed dozens of people crowded around a campsite, all watching the game on a flat-screen television, propped up on its own stand.

It’s been revealed that the man behind this savvy Glasto hack is none other than former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson.

While the football fan has a successful solo career, he wasn’t on the bill at the festival, and was instead there as an audience member.

When Glastonbury organisers announced earlier in the week that they would not be airing the England v Slovakia game anywhere on site, Tomlinson decided to take matters into his own hands – and made a trip to popular UK chain store Argos on the way to the festival to pick up a TV.

“It’s the second screen I’ve bought,” Tomlinson told the Guardian during the game. “The first got cracked.”

He also confessed that he wouldn’t have been so keen to take credit for bringing the TV had England not won the game.

“I wasn’t going to take credit for it because it looked like we were going to lose in normal time, but now that we’ve equalised I’m happy to.”

Speaking to the BBC, Tomlinson laughed at being given the moniker “god of the festival” for his services to football fans. He revealed that the guerrilla broadcast had been “a little bit touch and go at times” due to patchy signal.

Tomlinson’s canny act was one of many headline-making moments from the weekend’s festival, which included huge performances from headliners Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.

Sporty Spice Melanie C also made a big cameo at the festival, joining dance legends Orbital on stage for a banging new remix of the Spice Girls’ classic Wannabe.

Off-stage, she was spotted walking hand-in-hand with Aussie male model Chris Dingwall, after the pair spent time together during her recent Australian tour.
