Spin Off festival goer pinned down by security guards
Footage has emerged of a young girl being pinned down by security officers, with one bystander questioning the amount of “force they were using”.
Footage captured from the Adelaide-based Spin Off music festival has shown the moment a young woman was pinned down by security guards.
In video obtained by the Adelaide Advertiser, the distressed woman is seen being restrained by at least three security guards, as another festival goer attempts to talk to her.
It’s believed the incident occurred at roughly 4.15pm on Friday afternoon.
“Why are they doing that to her?” one man can be heard saying in the background of the video.
25-year-old festival attendee, Phoebe Kempson, 25, said the woman was being held “face-first on the concrete by four security guards”.
“She was just screaming, she looked petrified … she was yelling, crying onto the cement,” she told The Advertiser.
“There were puddles from her tears, it was awful.
“It wasn’t a pleasant sight at all.”
When Ms Kempson approached the security guards and questioned their actions, she was told it was ‘none of her business’ and asked to move away.
“I told them I was concerned by the force they were using,” she said.
“They just get repeating, ‘we are not on her chest, she can breathe, leave us alone … we have it sorted.’”
According to SA Police, officers said a 22-year-old woman was removed from the festival at around 4.45pm. They claim she “allegedly assaulted a security officer (by spitting)” while was being evicted from the venue.
“Police assisted in removing the woman from the venue,” a spokeswoman told The Adelaide Advertiser.
SA Ambulance also confirmed that a patient was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, after a call was made from the festival.
Taking place at the Adelaide Showgrounds, the one-day musical festival featured acts by the Glass Animals, Jack Harlow, G Flip and Spacey Jane.
In the aftermath of the festival, organisers of Spin Off took to their Facebook page to thank patrons for their support.
“That’s a wrap on Spin Off Festival 2022!” the social media post read.
“Thank you so much to everyone who came and celebrated with us today. You filled our hearts with pure joy and happiness.
“We hope you all had the most incredible day and took home so many memories from the beautiful artists that took to the stage.”
This incident comes as Australian Federal Police officers received backlash from punters after a photo emerged of police sniffer dogs searching the bags of festival goers flying from Gold Coast Airport to Byron Bay.
A photo tweeted by Zara Seidler of The Daily Aus showed a long line of revellers who had their bags placed by their feet prior to what appeared to be an inspection.
While some people questioned whether the practice was legal, an AFP spokesperson later confirmed the searches were standard practice.
“The AFP can confirm it is conducting normal operational activity at Gold Coast Airport today, including the use of firearm and explosive detection dogs as part of the standard security presence provided by the AFP at airports around Australia,” an AFP spokesman said.
