“Is that Kylie?!” Minogue surprised a stadium full of 80,000 people with a performance she’d managed to keep top secret until the last second.

Aussie pop superstar Kylie Minogue surprised a stadium full of people over the weekend, with an unannounced performance at the Capital Summertime Ball in London.

Acts including the Jonas Brothers, Niall Horan, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding headlined the festival show, taking place at Wembley Stadium, but Minogue was nowhere to be seen on the line-up – which made for quite the surprise when she suddenly emerged from beneath the stage to sing her latest hit single Padam Padam.

Wearing a red dress, boots and sunglasses, Minogue surfaced from underneath the stage in a crouch, stalking the catwalk with more than a dozen dancers.

Minogue finished her short set with her biggest hit to date, the 2001 pop classic Can’t Get You Out of My Head.

The Aussie star, who will release her next studio album Tension in September, shared a behind the scenes clip on social media showing her underneath the stage seconds before the performance began, waiting impatiently for the lift to bring her to the stage:

And her surprise performance, announced to the 80,000-strong crowd only moments before she began singing, had the desired effect on at least one elated festivalgoer:

Kylie’s surprise festival slot comes as she enjoys her biggest hit in years with her new single, which this week sits at number 12 in the British charts – her best chart position there since Into The Blue also hit number 12 back in January 2014.

Here in Australia, Padam Padam currently sits at 40 on the charts after so far peaking at 39 – the first time a Kylie single has troubled the top 40 in over a decade.

And with the song still taking off, some fans are already begging Minogue to release the title track to her forthcoming album Tension, after brief clips of the song surfaced on social media to a rapturous response.
