Cody Simpson says dating US model Gigi Hadid made him wiser

AUSTRALIAN pop star Cody Simpson has opened up about his love life with famous US model Gigi Hadid.

Simpson, playing at Slimefest Festival in Melbourne today, told Confidential: “(Gigi) was my serious girlfriend for a year. When you’re able to experience those kind of feelings with someone, it opens up a part of your mind that you didn’t was able to be tapped into.

“It makes you a wiser person. But you don’t really know until you experience it. Having someone like (Gigi) made me learn a lot about myself.”

LA-based Simpson, 17, who is set to release an album of acoustic duets with Justin Bieber, and Guess Jeans and Pirelli calendar model Hadid, 19, split last month because of his busy career.

“It was cool to travel, see the world together and try to make it work,” Simpson said. “It was more of a long-distance thing.”

Hadid told a magazine recently: “I love Cody to death and he loves me. We’re still best friends and I’ll always respect him.”

Simpson is headlining Slimefest at the State Netball and Hockey Centre, in Parkville, at 6pm today.

Other performers include Justice Crew, Savage, Timomatic, The Collective, Sabrina Carpenter and Cody’s sister, Alli Simpson.

Meanwhile, Cody, who has joined Justin Bieber’s management team in the US, said his duets album with Bieber marked a new chapter.

“I’m going through a serious career transition right now,” Simpson said. “I’m about to become an adult soon and music is my No. 1 priority. I’ve dedicated myself to improving everyday ... either practising guitar or working with a vocal coach.

“My drive is stronger than ever.”
