The festival was presented by Triple J and had more than 5000 music fans signed up for presale which began on Friday, with general sale tickets set to open on Monday.

Organisers of Promise Village boasted a line-up with “global superstars” when it was announced within the past month.

Co-founder of the festival Emal Naim told PerthNow the cancellation was caused by low ticket sales and lack of government support.

“It unfortunately didn’t hold up to initial expectations and there was not much support to sustain costs, it just wasn’t feasible anymore,‘ Mr Naim said.

Furious fans have taken to social media, with many demanding answers as to why it was cancelled.

“Will you be releasing a statement about why it is cancelled?” one user commented on Facebook.

It comes after multiple festivals across the country were cancelled this year, including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin the Moo and Coastal Jam.
