Love lives on stage at the Big Day Out

IT may not be the most romantic of settings but Bliss N Eso MC Max McKinnon thought otherwise yesterday, choosing to propose to his girlfriend Megan Gander mid-set.

He and his bandmates had been planning the moment since their recent US tour - and it left his girlfriend of seven years lost for words.

In front of a packed main arena of 35,000 people McKinnon, after telling them how much he loved them, beckoned his girlfriend from side of stage to the front and dropped to one knee.

"There's someone else in my life I love; my girlfriend Megan. Come on out sweetheart," he said.

To the crowd he continued: "Since this is such a monumental moment I want to tell you she's put up with a lot of shit over the years and I have a very special question to ask her.

"Will you marry me?"

McKinnon's manager Adam Janke then handed over the ring which a shaking Gander happily accepted.

"She said yes, she said yes," McKinnon told the crowd as the pair hugged and kissed.

Backstage Gander said: "I had no idea what was going on and I started shaking when he asked me to come on stage."

"I want him to ask again tomorrow so I can say, 'hell yeah I'll marry you' because I had three mics in my face and was saying yes to all of them."

McKinnon later revealed the real ring didn't arrive in time so he used one designed by a late friend which is worn by band DJ Izm.
