Louis Tomlinson finally dips his toe in the world tour market with the boy band survivor heading to Australia in April.

But fans will be crushed he is following the lead of Harry Styles with just two shows in Sydney and Melbourne.

Tomlinson will perform at Sydney’s Big Top on April 25 and Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on April 27.

Styles and Niall Horan both whetted the appetite of their loyal Directioners for their solo efforts with theatre shows in Australia before heading back the following year to perform in arenas.

Tomlinson is the last member of One Direction to release a solo record, with his debut album Walls out in January.

His mate Liam Payne, who recently performed in Sydney for The Everest race, narrowly beats him in the solo record race with his LP1 scheduled for release in early December.

Tomlinson’s creative endeavours have stalled due to family tragedy in the three years since One Direction called time out in 2016.

His mother Johannah lost her battle with leukaemia in late 2016 and his 18-year-old sister Félicité died of a heart attack earlier this year.

Tomlinson also returned to the UK X Factor last year, the show which launched One Direction onto the world stage, as a judge alongside Simon Cowell, Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Fields.

His solo musical output to date has been a disparate collection of singles, kicking off in the electronic dance arena with his Steve Aoki collaboration Just Hold On which peaked at No. 20 on the ARIA charts and achieved platinum sales of more than 70,000 units.

The 27-year-old’s follow-up track Back To You, featuring Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals, landed higher at No. 11 and doubled the sales for the former One Directioner.

But his subsequent singles haven’t dented the ARIA top 100.

His latest effort, the Oasis-lite single We Made It, was released last week, with the video yet to reach two million views over the weekend.

To be fair, it was lost in the wash of scene-stealing releases from Kanye West and Selena Gomez.

Tomlinson told fans he had struggled to find his musical identity as a solo artist after his group’s disbandment.

“I feel like a new artist now. It’s taken a while for me to be comfortable on my own, to learn to trust my gut and make sure I get what I want. I feel the most confident I’ve ever been, both as a songwriter and a singer, and the most mature,” he said in a statement.

“Of course I want to be successful, but what matters is what my music means to me and what it means to the fans. That’s the priority. The rest we’ll have to wait and see.”

The 1D fans remain fiercely loyal to the pop stars with many piling on Australian radio personality Ash London online when she hosted the Hit Network summer breakfast show with Ed Kavalee and Ash Williams two years ago.

While trying to describe Tomlinson to her cohosts who were trying to figure out which 1D member he was, she made a throwaway comment about the state of the singer’s facial hair.

London suffered anxiety after being deluged with more than one million abusive messages from fans when Tomlinson supported the bullying campaign with a tweet directed at London telling her “Probs best to stay on private for a bit longer love!” and included an emoji of a middle finger.
