The band’s drummer Nathan Followill has had surgery on a torn bicep and needs time to recover.
March dates in Australia and South Africa have been postponed until November.
The band were due to play Rod Laver Arena on March 17 and 18 with new dates to be announced this week.
“Sorry to all the fans in Australia and South Africa. My bum wing needs more time to heal but we'll be back later this year. Sorry again,” Followill announced on Twitter.
Last week the band downsized shows in Brisbane and Sydney with their latest album, Come Around Sundown, struggling to match the sales of previous release Only By the Night.
The band are expected to play their headline show at the Coachella festival in mid April in the US before a UK tour starting in May.
