Katy Perry breaks silence over controversy

Katy Perry has broken her silence over what has proven to be one of the most controversial moves of her entire career, and fans aren’t happy.

Katy Perry responds to backlash over working with Dr. Luke

Katy Perry has broke her silence over working Dr. Luke on her forthcoming album, 143, despite the producer being accused of drugging and raping her former close friend, Kesha.

While appearing on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast Wednesday, the singer, 39, was asked why she decided to work with the songwriter, born Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald.

Perry’s highly anticipated comeback has been slammed because of her decision to work with the producer, and now she’s finally broken her silence.

Sadly, her explanation has done anything but appease fan complaints.

“Look, I understand that it started a lot of conversations. He was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me,” said Perry, who shocked in the same interview with an X-rated confession.

“The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis. And he was one of the people to help facilitate all that. One of the writers, one of the producers.”

“When I speak about Woman’s World, I speak about feeling so empowered now as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life, creating another set of organs, a brain, a heart — I created a whole-ass heart,” the pop star, who shares four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove with fiance Orlando Bloom.

Fans have lashed out at Perry over her comments, with many slamming the star for giving a “word salad” answer rather than just apologising.

“So much was said … yet none of it justifies working [with] Dr. Luke,” one user wrote on Twitter.

“So she basically didn’t answer the question,” a second user commented.

“She literally said she worked with him because she wanted to?? Oh yikes, at this point just don’t speak,” a third user shared.

One podcast listener dubbed Katy’s answer as a “word salad,” while another called her response a “waster of breath,” and said it was the “final nail in the coffin” for her career, as shared on Reddit.

Another listener even said they would have had “more respect” for Katy if she had been “honest about wanting to work with the person who gave her the biggest hits of her career.”

Dr. Luke was named Songwriter of the Year at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards in 2010 for his work on two of Katy’s hit singles from that year, including California Gurls and Teenage Dream.

Instead, many accused Katy of peddling what they called a “rehearsed” narrative of “being a mother.”

“She could commit a crime and still find a way to justify it,” another user added.

It’s been a tough few months for Perry, whose comeback has failed dramatically, leaving her up to much ridicule on social media as a result.
