Kanye West ‘quits Jay Z’s Tidal over money dispute’ as former best friend takes aim at him on 4:44
KANYE West has reportedly cut ties with Jay Z’s Tidal over a $3.8 million debt, with the music service threatening to sue.
KANYE West has reportedly cut ties with Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal after being owed more than $US3 million ($3.8 million).
TMZ reports West’s lawyer wrote to Tidal a month ago, saying the company was in breach and the contract was terminated.
After two weeks of talks, West’s lawyer fired off a second letter declaring the contract was over, with Tidal now reportedly threatening to sue.
According to TMZ, West’s decision to split from his frequent collaborator’s company predates the release of Jay Z’s new album, 4:44, in which he trashed the husband of Kim Kardashian.
Jay Z rapped: “I know people backstab you, I feel bad too / But this f*** everybody attitude ain’t natural / But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe / But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye / You gave him 20 million without thinkin’ / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinkin’? / ‘F*** wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’ / But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”
During a concert last December, West called out Beyoncé and Jay Z, among others, and ended the performance early.
“Beyoncé — I was hurt … because I heard that you said you wouldn’t perform unless you won Video of the Year over me and over Hotline Bling,” he said about the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Sometimes we be playing the politics too much and forget who we are just to win.”
He later added: “I’ve been sent here to give y’all my truth even at the risk of my own life, even at the risk of my own success, my own career. I’ve been sent here to give y’all the truth. Jay-Z — call me, bruh. You still ain’t called me. Jay Z, call me, Jay Z — I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Just call me. Talk to me like a man.”
