Johnny Depp and Jeff Beck to release new album, 18

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor has made a major announcement as he moves on from his defamation trial with Amber Heard.

Johnny Depp is set to release an album with English rocker Jeff Beck on July 15.

Johnny Depp is bringing out a new album with Jeff Beck in July.

The record, titled 18, is the actor’s first major career move since he won his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The joint album comes out on July 15, while the first single, This Is A Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr, has already been released.

“When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity,” Beck said in a statement on his website.

“We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too.”

Depp, who was recently spotted on stage jamming with the English guitarist in the UK, said it was a privilege to collaborate with his long-time friend, who has been releasing albums since rising to fame as one of The Yardbirds in the mid 1960s.

“It’s an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother,” Depp said.

Depp recently concluded a six-week trial that was filled with testimony about the alleged abuse former wife Amber Heard claimed she suffered at the hands of her ex-husband.

Heard was ordered to pay Depp $US10 million ($A14 million) in defamation compensatory damages and $US5 million ($A7m) in punitive damages after the jury decided she “acted with actual malice”.

However, Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Penney Azcarate reduced the punitive damages the jury awarded Depp to $US350,000 ($A487,000), the state’s statutory cap, making his total damages $US10.4m ($A14.49m).

The jury did agree with one aspect of Heard’s claim — that she was defamed by Depp’s lawyer — and awarded her $US2m ($A2.78m) in compensation and $0 in punitive fees.
