Hundreds troll Matt Doran’s pre-Adele Instagram post
Furious fans are flocking to Matt Doran’s unfortunate final Instagram post before his disastrous Adele interview.
Embattled Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran is facing a fierce social media backlash in the wake of his Adele interview fiasco.
Hundreds have flocked to his most recent Instagram post – a selfie with two Seven crew members in London on November 4, teasing a “pretty special” story he was working on – to mock the TV host for the huge blunder.
Doran had travelled to London to film what was to be Adele’s only Australian TV interview, to promote her first album in six years, 30.
There was just one problem – Doran hadn’t actually listened to the album, something he freely admitted to the star at the end of their half-hour chat.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Adele was offended by the admission, and her record company exercised their right to can the interview, leaving Seven with no footage from an interview that was organised as part of a reported $1 million deal which included local rights to air the singer’s One Night Only concert special.
It was an epic stuff-up – and one those on social media won’t let Doran forget.
“Photo taken minutes before disaster,” one person quipped under his pre-Adele London Instagram post.
“This picture did not age well at all,” said another.
“17 hours on a plane and couldn’t find the time to listen to the album … the in-flight entertainment must have been amazing to forget the basics of his own job!” wrote another.
And on they went, dozens and dozens more comments posted since The Daily Telegraph broke the jaw-dropping story yesterday:
“Time to gram but no time to cram?”
“OK but honestly, why the hell did you not listen to Adele’s album?? You had one job, my dude!”
“Why do you still have this post up? Might be best to just delete it …”
Those on Twitter were just as eviscerating:

So thinking more about this Matt Doran/Adele balls up. As a journo myself, I would research/listen to music of local bands I interviewed. I would be embarrassed if I rocked up to an interview not knowing what I was asking.

Doran last night defended himself in an interview with The Australian, claiming it was an unfortunate mistake, rather than arrogance, that meant he didn’t listen to Adele’s new music before the interview.
He said he had been sent an e-copy of the new album but “somehow missed” it while flying to London. He called it “the most important email I have ever missed,” and said he was “mortified and unequivocally apologetic.”
“When I sat down to interview Adele, I was totally unaware that I’d been emailed a preview of her unreleased album,” Doran said.
He also refuted reports he was suspended by Seven over the incident, telling The Australian’s Nick Tabakoff he was never “formally” suspended despite being off the air for one weekend.
