English singer Harry Styles has mimicked his former One Direction bandmate by swapping his northern accent for a new twang.

Fans have been left baffled after hearing the superstar sound what they believe is Australian in a new interview, The Sun reports.

It comes weeks after former fellow band member Liam Payne – born and raised in Wolverhampton, England – was criticised for changing his accent while at the Oscars.

One asked: “Harry Styles has caught whatever accent Liam Payne had.”

“What the heck happened to his accent?”, another asked.

Someone else wondered: “Are we going to see Niall talking in a Spanish accent next??”

One said: “OK so why is Harry Styles Aussie accent hot but also surprising but I love it.”

The 28-year-old joined Apple Music presenter Zane Lowe for a new interview.

Harry, who was born in Redditch, Worcestershire, is promoting his third studio album.

But his accent has grabbed the headlines – just like when Liam was interviewed on GMB at the 94th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Liam was defending King Richard star Will Smith shortly after he slapped Chris Rock.

“I’ve got to be honest with you, Will Smith used to actually live behind my house, I had the blessing of knowing his son and his daughter very well,” Liam began.

“I believe whatever he felt that he did, he had the right to do. I also believe that there were three losers in that fight.

“He didn’t know, being Chris Rock, he didn’t want to do what he had to do, being Will Smith, and she did nothing, being Jada.

“I had to leave my chair I’ll be honest with you, it cut me really deep.”

But many were left distracted by Liam’s apparent change in accent, which had him sounding “not even English” in parts of the interview.

The English star appeared to have a number of different twangs, including Welsh, Italian and Dutch.
