Full Tilt 2022: Pictures from Melbourne rock festival at Burnley’s Reunion Park

Hard rock festivals are well and truly back, and the artists at Full Tilt left nothing on the stage. Check out our snaps and see if you can spot yourself in the pit.

Forget the circus, circle pits and slamming riffs reigned supreme in Burnley on the weekend as the long-delayed Full Tilt festival came to Melbourne.

The new boutique punk and metal festival, staged by promoters Destroy All Lines, was announced back in January 2021 to fill the void for hard-rock staved fans coming out of a Covid-ravaged 2020.

It was originally planned as a national tour in July, but the virus once again reared its head, and crowd restrictions eventually led to its Sydney and Adelaide legs being cancelled.

But Melburnians’ patience was rewarded on Saturday as the cream of Australia’s heavy acts strutted their stuff in front of about 7000 fans across two tent stages.

Headliners Northlane packed a punch with plenty of flames, smoke and confetti, while Tasmanian metallers Psycroptic had fans in wheelchairs crowd-surfing to their brutal tunes.

The hype around booming Melbourne metalcore band Thornhill was also on full display, with fans locked out of seeing them on the smaller second stage due to a packed-out tent.

Veteran punksters Frenzal Rhomb and The Bennies also brought plenty of fun and energy in their sets.

Full Tilt is one of several events which have been held at Burnley’s circus site this month as part of the newly established Reunion Park arts and music precinct.

It has staged outdoor tent shows by bands including Polaris, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, and will also be a hub for various arts and comedy shows in the coming weeks.

Destroy All Lines is planning a quick return for Full Tilt, with the festival’s 2022 edition pencilled in for July.

Here’s some pics of the bands and punters enjoying themselves on the day.
