Flume dominates today's ARIA Awards nominations with Tame Impala hot on his heels
SYDNEY dance act Flume has eight ARIA nominations, with Guy Sebastian finally getting some voting love including Best Male Artist.
SYDNEY dance producer Flume, aka Harley Streten, has dominated this year's ARIA nominations.
The 21-year-old Streten is up for eight awards including Album of the Year for his No. 1 self-titled debut album, as well as Best Male, Best Dance Release, Breakthrough Artist, Best Australian Live Act and Song of the Year for Holdin' On.
The nomination sweep follows Flume winning four Independent Music Awards last week. At the nominations, announced in Sydney today, Streten picked up an early ARIA artisan award as Producer of the Year.
West Australian rock band Tame Impala have seven nominations for their internationally-acclaimed second release Lonerism, including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Group.
Birds of Tokyo have six nominations including Album of the Year for March Fires, while ARIA voters have finally embraced Guy Sebastian, ten years after he won Australian Idol.
Sebastian's album Armageddon is up for Album of the Year, he's also nominated for Best Male Artist, Best Pop Release and his hit Get Along is up for Song of the Year.
Another Idol discovery, Jessica Mauboy, is nominated alongside Missy Higgins, Sarah Blasko, Emma Louise and Abbe May for Best Female Artist.
Best Male is a mix of generations - Paul Kelly, Keith Urban, Guy Sebastian, Matt Corby and Flume.
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have scored six nominations for their first No. 1 album Push the Sky Away including Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Independent Release and the poison chalice category Best Adult Contemporary Album.
The category has managed to get 'cooler' in recent years - also nominated this year alongside Cave are Clare Bowditch, Josh Pyke, Sarah Blasko and Bob Evans.
Meanwhile 2013 continues to get better for rock survivor Russell Morris - his Top 10 album Sharkmouth is nominated for Best Blues and Roots Album.
Melbourne's Vance Joy has scored his first ARIA nominations - his God Loves You When You're Dancing EP has scored him nods for Breakthrough Artist and Best Pop Release while his Top 10 hit Riptide is up for Song of the Year, one of this year's public-voted categories.
Meanwhile former Wiggle Sam Moran will go up against his former band when both acts are nominated in Best Children's Album - Moran for Play Along With Sam, the Wiggles for Taking Off!
The winners will be announced at the ARIA Awards on December 1 at the Star Event Centre in Sydney.
They will air on Channel Nine's digital channel Go.
Hosting duties, performers and the inductee for this year's Hall of Fame have yet to be announced.
