Elton John ‘in shock’ over his mum’s death, months after pair reconciled following nine-year feud

ELTON John’s mum, Sheila Farebrother, has died at the age of 92, just months after the pair had reconciled following a bitter nine-year feud.

ELTON John announced his mum’s death in a heartbreaking Twitter post overnight saying he is “in shock”.

Sheila Farebrother’s death at the age of 92 comes just months after the pair buried a nine-year feud with the superstar saying he will miss her “so much”, reports The Sun.

The 70-year-old tweeted: “So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning.

“I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock.

“Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton.”

In May, John had shared a throwback photo of himself and his mum with the message: “Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day! So happy we are back in touch.”

The iconic performer fell out with his 92-year-old mother in 2008 after a disagreement over her maintaining friendships with his former staff members.

John then failed to show up to his stepdad’s funeral in 2010 and Farebrother furthered the feud by hiring an Elton John tribute act for her 90th birthday party.

The milestone birthday is said to have seen John get in touch with his mum for the first time in seven years, sending her white orchids.

Their full reconciliation is believed to have come shortly after John spent time in intensive care with a bacterial infection in April after falling “violently ill” on a flight to the UK from Chile.

It is thought that mum and son had not seen each other since 2008 following the argument.

In an interview in March 2015 Mrs Farebrother said that her son “hated” her.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she explained the rift started over a “petty” argument when he asked her to cut ties with two of her oldest friends, who had also been part of his early success, Bob Halley and John Reid.

She said: “Then to my utter amazement, he told me he hated me. And he banged the phone down. Imagine. To me, his mother.”

John married his partner David Furnish in 2005 after 12 years together and the couple have two children.

Last month the superstar released a new collection of his greatest hits entitled Diamonds.

The album coincides with the 50th anniversary of his partnership with Bernie Taupin, an English lyricist who has worked with Elton on many of his most famous songs.
