Ed Sheeran secretly becomes a father for second time

The music star and his wife managed to keep the entire pregnancy under wraps before welcoming their second child together.

Singer Ed Sheeran and wife Cherry have secretly had their second child after keeping news of the pregnancy under wraps for the full nine months.

Cherry gave birth to a daughter, a sister for firstborn Lyra who is two in September, The Sun reports.

In a touching announcement, Shape of You singer Ed — Britain’s biggest hit maker — said the couple are “both so in love” with the tot, who is yet to be named.

Ed, 31, shared a snap of a baby’s booties in an incubator, mirroring the pic of tiny socks he used when revealing Lyra’s birth.

And he gushed: “I want to let you all know we’ve had another beautiful baby girl.

“We are both so in love with her, and over the moon to now be a family of four.”

Last year, he told The Sun he hoped to expand his family. But the couple are understood to have confided only their very closest family about their pregnancy.

Mum was the word for Lyra’s birth too, with them managing to keep it a secret until two weeks before her birth. But that was easier because of lockdown.

A source explained: “He just feels when you’re in the public eye a huge amount, these things are even more special if you can keep them quiet.

“They’ve done an incredible job to keep it all under wraps, but finally it’s time to share their happy news now that their baby has arrived safely.

“It’s testament to the people he loves and works with that this never leaked out — it’s almost unheard of in showbiz.”

Ed only recently completed the first leg of a world tour, and is back on the road again next Thursday in Cardiff. He then travels the UK and heads to Europe.

A spokeswoman confirmed: “Ed and Cherry recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl and are on cloud nine.

“They’re so excited for Lyra to have a little sister and the four of them are currently enjoying some precious family time before Ed heads back on tour.

“We are delighted for them, and we hope that you can respect their privacy at this special time.”

Sheeran announced the news with this photo on Instagram.

Ed is worth an estimated $450 million after selling more than 150 million records worldwide.

He has often credited business consultant Cherry with keeping him grounded. The couple — ex-high school friends and classmates often seen at Ipswich Town games — began dating in 2015.

They announced their engagement in January 2018 in a loved-up Instagram snap.

Ed wrote at the time: “Got myself a fiancee just before New Year. We are very happy and in love and our cats are chuffed as well.”

They married in secret late that year at his estate in Framlingham, Suffolk, watched by a handful of their closest friends and family.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun ahead of his most recent album last October, Ed said: “I’d love more kids man, I’d love it. But it does depend on what Cherry wants too because it’s her body.

“I’m really proud of Cherry as a mother. She’s such an incredible human, I’m just in awe.

“She did a whole Cambridge degree which she started two weeks before giving birth. I went to her graduation at Jesus College and people were saying like, ‘How did she do this with a baby?’”

He went on: “Since becoming a dad I’ve become quite clean-living.

“But I think actually taking time off and not being on tour was the worst thing for my health because I would drink every single day.

“I stopped three months before Lyra was born because I was determined I was going to be the person to drive my wife to hospital.

“I was 98kg at my peak and I think I’m 67kg now. I was big, it really showed. I had a 36 waist — now I’m down to 28.

“It was when Cherry was pregnant the penny dropped.

“Lyra has been the biggest motivation in terms of detoxing my life, and I think it’s a change everyone needs to go through if they’re a parent.”
