Brooke Shields labels Miley Cyrus's VMA performance as 'desperate'
IT WAS the photo that sparked almost as much attention as Miley Cyrus gyrating against singer Robin Thicke and a foam hand. But what really had the Smiths so excited?
IT WAS the photo that sparked almost as much attention on social media as Miley Cyrus gyrating against singer Robin Thicke and a foam hand.
But as it turns out Will Smith and his family weren't really in shock over the young startlet's raunchy performance but were watching Lady Gaga peform her song Applause while chewing gum.
Twitter and Facebook erupted with hundreds of thousands of comments about the Smith family's open-mouthed reaction following Cyrus's controversial performance at yesterday's MTV Video Music Awards.
According to MTV, the Smiths simply liked what they saw when Gaga got up on stage.
They say: "We captured the whole thing on one of our VMA All Access cameras... and, as you can clearly see, Jaden, Willow and dad Will were digging Gaga's performance. Willow, in particular, goes nuts when "Applause's" anthemic chorus hits, and, at the end of the song, they all followed the tune's instructions and clapped loudly for the Mother Monster."
Robin Thicke's mum, former Day of Our Lives star Gloria Loring, admitted she was left confused and wondering what the raunchy performance was all about.
"I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do," she told US Magazine.
"I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial.
"It was so over the top as to almost be a parody of itself."

Smilers! My VMA performance had 306.000 tweets per minute. That's more than the blackout or Superbowl! #fact.
The singer's raunchy performances shocked fans with an explicit display of tongue-wagging, twerking and grinding during her performance of We Can't Stop.
Surrounded by dancing bears, the star hip-thrusted and gyrated her way around the stage, gesturing towards her crotch and sticking her tongue out.

How violated do u think that foam finger Miley Cyrus was using feels? #VMAs
If that wasn't bad enough, it got even worse when Robin Thicke entered the stage to perform a duet of his single Blurred Lines.
Meanwhile the Hannah Montana star's on-screen mother Brooke Shields labelled the out there star's stunt as "desperate".
Shields, who played her mother Susan Stewart on the popular Disney show told US show Today: "I was Hannah Montana's mother! Where did I go wrong?"
"I just want to know who's advising her, and why [the provocative dance routine] is necessary, [My children] can't watch that. I feel like it's a bit desperate."

The actor acknowledged other singers such as Lady Gaga were equally provocative but that Cyrus seemed to be "trying too hard" and that she should let her voice, not her bottom, do the talking.
And it turns out she's alone in her shock with eccentric singer Cindy Lauper telling Brig &Lehmo on Classic Hits Gold104.3 this morning that Cyrus's performance was "girl gone wild...so bad so sad.
"A young twenty-something trying to prove that she can hang with the big boys".
"Basically simulating a girl gone wild video on stage...it was raunchy it wasn't even art...I felt really sad for her".
The only thing that could top Miley Cyrus is if they bust Amanda Bynes out in a straight jacket and let her free to attack Drake. #MTVVMAs
Just saw a couple performances from the VMA's last night. 2 words.... #pitchystrippers
But while Miley's real mother Tish Cyrus has so far remained silent over the performance, Billy Ray Cyrus defended his daughter's controversial performance and asked the twitttersphere for less hate and more love.
Billy Ray's message posted in the early hours of the morning, follows criticism and derision over Miley's over-the-top performance at the awards night.
But her country-music loving dad appeared to support the 20-year-old when he asked fans to leave her alone.
Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ...less hate.
