Boy George’s showbiz firm has gone bust with debts of almost $1.9 million.
The 62-year-old Karma Chameleon singer’s finances fell flat, despite his return to the limelight on the latest UK season of the reality show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!
The company was ordered to shut down by the High Court, due to debts owed to his former Culture Club band mate and ex-boyfriend Jon Moss, 65, reports The Sun.
Company assets of £324,682 ($618,000) are being taken by liquidators to pay him back.
The firm, set up in April 2018, was used to handle George’s music and TV pay — which would include his $950,000 fee from ITV last December.
The winding up order was made earlier this month, with the paperwork published this week.
George, also ordered to pay Moss’s legal fees, is now making moves to avoid bankruptcy.
The Sun revealed in April that he was facing a $3.3 million damages claim brought by Moss, but the pair managed to reach an out-of-court settlement.
Moss, a founding member of the band, and George were in a secret relationship at the height of the group’s fame.
Moss was sacked in September 2018 and spent $1.9 million on his legal fight.
He originally launched a legal case against his bandmates claiming he was owed £188,000 ($358,000) in lost income under the terms of a tour contract.
In January, George said: “I feel I have much to be upset about but I have to the best of my knowledge removed any real hatred towards him.”
Beginning with their 1982 UK No 1 Do You Really Want to Hurt Me, Culture Club became hugely successful, with six more UK Top Five hits and six Top 10 hits in the US that decade, including the transatlantic chart-topper Karma Chameleon.
