Beyonce releases surprise new song and powerful music video
BEYONCE has shocked her fans by releasing a surprise new song and powerful music video ahead of her Super Bowl performance tomorrow.
BEYONCE has continued her tradition of dropping music unannounced, releasing a new song and a powerful music video, called Formation.
It is believed Beyonce, 34, will perform Formation as part of the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show tomorrow.
The music video invokes a southern vibe, as well as a number of key issues facing African American people in the US at the moment, like the Black Lives Matter movement. It featuries scenes set in a Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans, and a young boy dancing while facing a line-up of riot police intercut with messages like “stop shooting us”.
Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy also makes a cameo in the clip.
The song is only available for download from Beyonce’s husband Jay Z’s subscription-based streaming service Tidal, but the music video is live on her YouTube page.
Beyonce will appear alongside other big names like Bruno Mars and Coldplay for the halftime show tomorrow. She previously performed at the Super Bowl in 2013.
Beyonce’s Telephone co-star Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem at the game.
Beyonce previously took everyone by surprise in 2013 when she released her fifth studio album unannounced.
The response to Formation on social media has been positive, with many celebrities sharing their love for the track.
