A WEEK after X-Men: Days of Future Past was teased on Instagram, the first full trailer for the seventh X-Men film has landed.
The two-minute clip promises a dark tone for the multiple timeline-spanning epic that teams up the cast from the first X-Men trilogy with that of its prequel, X-Men: First Class.
In the film, the present-day Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto (played by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen) send Hugh Jackman's Wolverine back in time to warn their feuding counterparts (James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) to a menace that threatens the future of mutants.
Days of Future Past marks the return of director Bryan Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films, and features a cast made up of the actors from his movies and First Class including Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence and Anna Paquin.
The film, already a gift to fans of the seven-film franchise, also features a series of treats for fans of the X-Me" comic books. Besides taking its name and story from a beloved 1981 graphic novel, the movie also features the first on-screen appearances of fan favourite characters Bishop (played by Omar Sy) and Blink (Fan Bingbing).
The film's dark tone will be punctuated with light notes as Stewart's Professor X implores his younger self "to hope again" as the clip comes to an end.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is set for release in Australia on 23 May, 2014.
