Margot Robbie has ruled out the chance to play Kylie Minogue in a film.

The Queensland actress, 35, was Minogue’s top choice to be cast in a possible biopic about her life in the spotlight, after the Aussie pop singer last year signed a seven-figure deal with Netflix to film a tell-all documentary.

The lucrative contract prompted many a murmur Minogue – who has previously publicly backed Robbie to play her – could be on track to get her own movie.

During an appearance on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, presenter Scott Mills told Robbie, “You know Kylie has said a few times that she would love you to play her in a movie.”

Robbie, who grew up on the Gold Coast, appeared unaware of the endorsement, replying, “She did not?! Why has nobody ever told me this before?! That is wild information.”

She continued, “I am beyond honoured. Of course, I could not. I can’t sing, I can’t sing like Kylie.

“I don’t like it when people can’t actually sing and do a singing movie, you know.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Robbie opened up about her friendship with Minogue, 57, saying the pair had a drunken first meeting at the famed Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

“I got a call from my team like, ‘Kylie Minogue would like to meet up with you,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is the best day of my life.’

“I assumed she wanted to meet to talk about some sort of work thing, or maybe she was putting together a charity event or something.

“So I get to the Chateau Marmont, and she sat down, the coolest, warmest, most divine creature you’ve ever met.

“She was just like, ‘I just thought, you’re an Aussie, I’m an Aussie, and we’ve never met. I thought we should probably hang out and get cocktails.’

“There was no work conversation whatsoever, we just got drunk together.”

The Barbie star, a three-time Oscar nominee, is busy on the promo trail for her upcoming Sony Pictures drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, in which she features opposite Colin Farrell.

The feature marks her first film since welcoming a son in October last year with husband Tom Ackerley.

It’s set to hit cinemas in Australia this Thursday, September 18.
