‘You’ve killed Kate Moss!’ Patsy and Eddie go on the run in first full-length trailer for Ab Fab film
THEY’VE done some hair-raising and illegal things in their time but killing a supermodel has got to be a first, even for Patsy Stone and Eddie Monsoon.
THEY’VE done some hair-raising and illegal things in their time but killing a supermodel has got to be a first, even for Patsy Stone and Eddie Monsoon.
In the first official trailer for the upcoming Absolutely Fabulous movie, the ladies are on the run from the UK after possibly ending the life of one Kate Moss after an accident at a fashion party.
And if the movie is as funny as the trailer is teasing, then fans of the much-loved comedy are in for a treat, reports The Sun.
It wouldn’t be a proper Ab Fab movie without some homages to previous episodes and the opening of the trailer does that wonderfully.
It opens with a nod to the very first episode of the comedy, which aired in 1992, and sees Eddie, played by Jennifer Saunders, returning home drunk from a fashion party, and falling out of the car and into the bushes outside the house after daughter Saffy, played by Julia Swahala, refuses to acknowledge her.
We then see her bemoaning to best friend Patsy, played by Joanna Lumley, that she is “now officially fatter sideways than I am front on”, but is reassured that she still looks, well, fabulous!
Cut to a few days later when Eddie is “working from Nobu this week” and Patsy calling her all excited with the news that “Kate Moss is changing her PR! You’ve got to get her. It’s Kate Moss, darling!”
The ladies arrive at a swanky fashion bash with the intention of poaching the supermodel when Eddie runs into Stella McCartney, before seeing Kate Moss chatting to Mad Men’s Jon Hamm outside.
In Eddie’s rush to get to Kate — pushing away arch PR enemy Claudia Bing of Bing, Bing and Bing, played by Celia Imrie — she ends up accidentally pushing Kate over the wall and into the Thames.
Cue hysterical and fainting partygoers and Eddie and Patsy quickly exit the bash, only to wake the next day to news bulletins full of reports of police efforts to find the missing supermodel.
Eddie even has a brick thrown through her window by Stella McCartney, as Eddie looks on the bright side and says, “it’s the first thing I’ve had from Stella.”
So the girls flee to the south of France where “everyone’s a criminal” and seem to be living the life of luxury — but fans will have to wait to discover their fate.
The movie is filled with lots of cameos which have been reported before but this trailer shows off many more, and not just Moss, McCartney and Hamm. Lily Cole and Game of Thrones’s Gwendoline Christie are at the party, Emma Bunton pops up, as does Eddie’s long-suffering client Lulu and Rebel Wilson also gets a scene where she tasers Patsy on the flight to France.
And as Patsy quite rightly points out, “you don’t get that on British Airways”.
Absolutely Fabulous: The movie opens across Australia on August 4
