THE Twilight Saga is coming back to life ... sort of.

Stephenie Meyer, who wrote the Twilight books, announced yesterday that five short films based on her famous characters will be made and shared exclusively on Facebook.

Meyer and Lions Gate (the studio behind the movies) will hold a competition to find five up-and-coming female directors who will win the chance to create the short flicks.

Before you get too excited though, you should know that none of the stars from the previous Twilight movies will appear in the short films, but Lions Gate’s vice chairman hasn’t ruled out the vampire series returning to the big screen in the future.

“We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of Twilight to a whole new audience while re-energising existing fans,” said Michael Burns to The New York Times.

“This is the just the beginning — a template, if you will ... You can probably guess what might be coming next.”

The last Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn — Part 2, was released in 2012 with the film series raking in more than $3.3 billion since the first one hit cinemas in 2008.
