Beetlejuice sequel in the works

ALMOST 30 years after the original hit our screens, Tim Burton has revealed that a sequel to his horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice is in the works.

The director confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 is coming during an interview with MTV News, adding that he will return to the director’s chair. But he’s not the only familiar face returning to the franchise — Burton also announced that Winona Ryder is locked in to reprise her role as heroine Lydia Deetz.

“Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah,” Burton said of Ryder’s return. “Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah.”

So, that’s a yes then?

Burton added that he has seen a preliminary script for the sequel, saying that it’s “pretty good.”

No word yet on whether leading man Michael Keaton will be back as the bug-eating fiend but he told MTV back in February: “I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another.”

Beetlejuice 2 currently has no production timetable and given Burton’s upcoming films, including a 2016 adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Keaton’s big few months ahead with Birdman, it might be a while off.

It’s looking like Michael Keaton might return as Beetlejuice.
