THE trailer for an Austrian horror film has left people all over the world terrified and unable to sleep.

Goodnight Mommy tells the tale of nine-year-old twin boys who are waiting for their mum to return home after getting cosmetic surgery.

But when she returns covered in bandages, nothing is like it was before and they start to suspect that perhaps the woman isn’t actually their mother after all.

The trailer for the film has so far been watched more than two million times and some of the YouTube comments include:

“I’m legitimately scared as sh*t right now ... I’m freaking out, this is the stuff of nightmares for real!”

“Am I the only one who paused it at 0:01 and sat there for five minutes wondering if I wanted to sleep for the next year?”

Goodnight Mommy will screen at the Melbourne International Film Festival on August 12.
