IT’S no secret that Leonardo DiCaprio’s character gets attacked by a bear in his new film The Revenant, but a newly released clip has revealed what happens after the terrifying encounter.
The preview clip shows the terrifying aftermath of the bear attack as DiCaprio reels from the horrific experience.
The Revenant is based on Michael Punke’s 2002 novel of the same name, inspired by the life of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass.
DiCaprio said the film, which is believed to offer him his best chance at an Oscar yet, was one of the most gruelling roles he has ever played.
“[Those scenes] — among many other sequences — were some of the more difficult things I’ve ever had to do in my entire career” the 40-year-old actor told Yahoo Movies.
“But the end result is going to be one of the most immersive experiences audiences will ever have with what it would be like to come face-to-face with an animal of that magnitude that is incredibly primal.
“It is absolutely startling and shocking, and it is the closest thing to documentary filmmaking — but in a completely stylised way that a lot of people never experienced.”
Inspired by true events, The Revenant is described by filmmakers as “an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit.
The Revenant, which also stars Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson will be released in Australia on January 7.
