THE first trailer for The Program, the film set to tell the “real” story behind Lance Armstrong, has debuted.

The 2015 drama stars Lone Survivor actor Ben Foster playing Armstrong, and will follow the cancer survivor and champion cyclist’s rise to glory and fall from grace.

In 2012 it was ruled that Armstrong was guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs during his lengthy racing career, and also of leading one of the most organised and undercover doping rings in sports.

Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen and Philomena), The Program also stars Bridesmaids actor Chris O’Dowd as David Walsh, The Irish sports journalist whose continuous reporting played a key role in exposing Armstrong’s cheating.

“He’s a man transformed! He recovered from cancer and turned into bloody Superman,” O’Dowd says in the explosive clip.

Walsh was the first reporter to expose Armstrong’s doping lie in an article back in 2001, and The Program appears to be based on Walsh’s 2012 book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong.

An official release date for The Program is yet to be announced.
