DISNEY is all about their live-action remakes at the moment, especially when they’re almost always guaranteed to be a box office smash.

The Emma Watson-led Beauty and the Beast hit cinemas overseas on the weekend and broke five box office records.

Some earlier remakes like Cinderella and The Jungle Book also did insanely well both critically and commercially.

The proposed Mulan remake on the other hand, might be facing an uphill battle — if Twitter has anything to say about it.

Thousands of users have taken to the social media platform to express their outrage after the film’s director Niki Caro revealed to MovieFone there were big changes planned for the remake.

“It’s a big, girlie martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving,” she said.

And, when questioned if the Disney movie would keep its iconic songs such as “I’ll make a man out of you” and “Reflection”, Caro delivered a bombshell that set Twitter alight: “From what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children.”

It was also recently revealed that Mulan’s love interest Li Shiang will be replaced by another man, who will instead act as her rival.

The remake will be directed by New Zealand native Niki Caro who became a global sensation after her 2002 Maori film Whale Rider.

A Mulan live-action movie isn’t the only remake Disney has on the cards.

They’ve also started to develop Aladdin, a 101 Dalmatians remake called Cruella starring Emma Stone and an adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Director of The Jungle Book Jon Favreau also recently announced Disney had enlisted the talents of Donald Glover and James Earl for a live-action Lion King.
