Surprise new contender for next James Bond
A FORMER child star is having talks with the producers of the 007 series about stepping into Daniel Craig’s shoes.
JAMIE Bell is the latest surprise choice to become the next James Bond.
The Billy Elliott star, 30, has held informal chats with producers about replacing Daniel Craig in the iconic role, The Sun reports.
Bond mogul Barbara Broccoli, 55, is currently making his latest movie Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool and has been impressed with his past performances.
A source said: “Barbara has been a fan of Jamie for a long time and has even thought about him playing another role in the franchise before.
“Everyone remembers Jamie as the little boy in Billy Elliott, but he’s now bulked up and got some serious roles under his belt.
“Tom Hiddleston and Aidan Turner are still in the frame, but Jamie has really shown that he is definitely up there competing with them.”
Jamie has just finished filming 6 Days where he plays an elite SAS soldier who leads the storming of the Iranian Embassy when it is taken over by gunmen in 1980.
He has been cast as British actor Peter Turner in Broccoli’s latest project which is set to begin shooting next week.
The film retells the passionate relationship he had with Oscar-winning actress Gloria Grahame and also stars Annette Bening, 57, and Julie Walters, 66.
It comes as Daniel Craig, 48, has turned down a £68 million offer to make a fifth 007 movie — telling studio bosses he is “done” with the role.
Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston, 35, is currently the favourite to take over the reins with Poldark actor Aidan Turner, 32, following closely behind.
Betting was suspended by Coral last week on Hiddleston after he was spotted chatting to previous Bond director Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli in London.
An Eon spokesman said: “Barbara regularly speaks to lots of actors and nothing has been decided yet on Bond.”
