Super Bowl movie trailers: Avengers, Mission Impossible and more

MOVIE studios dropped eight new trailers, including videos for Avengers: Infinity War, Red Sparrow and Mission Impossible: Fallout.

The Avengers are on the case.

WITH more than 100 million people watching, the Super Bowl is renowned for its entertaining ad breaks.

Viewers expect they’ll see something worth sticking around for and it’s the only time advertisers can be sure that people will be watching, instead of taking themselves off to the dunny.

So among the spots for chips, cars and chocolate are movie trailers for upcoming blow-’em-up blockbusters the studios don’t want you to miss.

Here are the eight trailers that debuted during the Super Bowl yesterday:

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Marvel’s big superhero team up will be about in about two and a half months and this 30-second trailer gives fans a further tease, including seeing Spidey with Iron Man and Doctor Strange for the first time, as well as Captain America’s new Wakanda-supplied shield.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT

Tom Cruise is back for Ethan Hunt’s sixth Mission Impossible, which really should be renamed Mission Probable at this point. He’s reteamed with Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Michelle Monaghan and Rebecca Ferguson but newbies include Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill’s moustache.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM

The second trailer for the upcoming Jurassic World franchise, Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt’s characters will be returning to island to save the dinosaurs that tried to kill them in the previous instalment. Go figure.

THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX

Netflix dropped the first trailer for The Cloverfield Paradox and then told everyone the movie will be available to stream right after the game. That’s ballsy. The J.J. Abrams-produced movie is the third instalment in the Cloverfield franchise and takes places on a space station.

SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

Disney dropped the first footage we’ve seen of the upcoming Star Wars spin-off with a 45-second teaser, before releasing the full trailer online about 18 hours later. The movie is a prequel and will follow a young Han Solo as he meets Chewie and Lando Calrissian.

RED SPARROW

Jennifer Lawrence stars as a Russian-trained assassin sent on a mission to seduce a rookie CIA agent. The trailer looks like it could be an origin story for Marvel’s Black Widow character, though it’s not.

A QUIET PLACE

A horror-thriller, A Quiet Place is directed by John Krasinski (best known for The Office), starring himself and real-life wife Emily Blunt as a family hiding in the woods from an unseen threat that is provoked by sound.

SKYSCRAPER

It has Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson jumping off a sky-high crane while being shot at from a helicopter. That tells you everything you need to know about Skyscraper.
