THE first trailer for the all-female Ghostbusters reboot has arrived.
The Sun reports that aside from director Paul Feig teasing a couple of behind the scene pictures, the clip is the first real glimpse that fans have been given of the long-awaited third instalment of the cult film franchise.
Set 30 years after Ghostbusters 2, it sees Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy team up with Saturday Night Live comics Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon to take on the paranormal in New York.
As well as the main four gender-swapped leads, the film also stars Thor actor Chris Hemsworth as their receptionist.
Also due to feature are original actors Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver in cameo roles.
Wiig and McCarthy play paranormal experts Erin Giilbert and Abby Yates, respectively.
Together with McKinnon as nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzman and Jones’s subway worker Patty Tolan, they hope to save the world from a mysterious and powerful demon known as Rowan (Neil Casey).
The wacky two minute and thirty seven second trailer looks like a totally CGI and slime fest.
Nostalgia lovers will be pleased however to note nods to the original 1984 film including the appearance of green ghost Slimer, the Ecto-1 car and Proton Packs.
It is even sound tracked by the familiar Ray Parker Jr theme song.
Ghostbusters is due for release in Australia on July 14.
