Marvel reveals Tom Holland will continue as Spider-Man in next three films

Ahead of the release of the final Spider-Man film in the Homecoming trilogy, Marvel has made a surprise announcement about the franchise.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is already being considered as the ultimate Spider-Man movie.

When the clock struck midnight and the tickets went on sale early Monday, it took only moments for domestic and national ticketing websites to crash as hopeful moviegoers rushed to secure seats to one of the biggest movies of the year.

But despite the fact that this final instalment of the Homecoming trilogy marks the end to Disney’s current deal to share the web-slinging character — played by British star Tom Holland — producer and former head of Sony Pictures Amy Pascal said the 25-year-old actor’s time as Peter Parker is far from over, the New York Post reports.

“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel — [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie,” Pascal said in an interview with Fandango Monday morning.

“We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go on to the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies … Yes, Marvel and Sony are going to keep going together as partners.”

Representatives for Holland did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.

The relationship between Sony Pictures and Disney has not always been a smooth one, as Spider-Man was almost pulled out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019.

Holland himself proved to be an instrumental figure in bringing the two studios back together, as then-Disney CEO Bob Iger explained in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Holland elaborated on in an interview with Kimmel a few months later.

The star jokingly recalled a drunken conversation he had with Iger after the 2019 D23 Expo, during which he “wept” to him over the possibility of his Spider-Man character being removed from the MCU due to the studios’ disagreement. “I was really emotional because I felt like it was all coming to an end,” he said.

It was that conversation that made the then-boss change his perspective.

“It was clear that he cared so much,” Iger said. “He’s a great Spider-Man. I felt for him and it was clear that the fans wanted all of this to happen.”

But Holland raised some eyebrows when he mentioned potentially hanging up of the spider suit in an interview with GQ earlier this month.

“Maybe it is time for me to move on,” he said.

“Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”

Well, perhaps not if Amy Pascal has anything to say about it.

Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres in December.
