JJ Abrams reveals what moon-like structure in Star Wars is

IN JUST over a month, Star Wars will finally be here. But for now, director JJ Abrams has revealed a new detail that should have the good guys shaking in their space boots.

AS IT gets closer and closer to the premiere of the year’s most anticipated cinematic event, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been teased with another detail from the closely guarded film.

In the official poster for the film, there’s a moon-like structure hovering in the background, but it’s not the moon.

Director JJ Abrams has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that it’s a Death Star-type weapon base. But, obviously, not the Death Star. Because, well, you know, it went kaboom in Episode IV.

Abrams said it’s the Starkiller Base and it’s the command centre for what’s left over of the Imperial regime, ominously named the First Order. Those bad guys, they do love the oh-so-serious, imposing names.

“It is very much – and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie – apparently another Death Star,” Abrams told EW. “But what it’s capable of, how it works, and what the threat is, is far greater than what the Death Star could have done. Starkiller Base is another step forward, technologically speaking, in terms of power.

Abrams went on to say that the First Order wants to succeed where Darth Vader failed and they’re gung-ho about it. “Evil’s a little bit like a drug,” he said. “It takes more and more of it to have the same effect. And I think the First Order is a really deadly drug.”

So there you have it. It’s not just another Death Star, it’s a much, much scarier Death Star. Joy.

We wonder if it’ll have the same tiny invulnerability or the bad guys learnt from what happened that other time.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be in cinemas from December 17.
