Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad revealed

JARED Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad features tattoos of manic laughter, teeth that will give nightmares and “damaged” across his forehead.

THE first image of a character from DC Comic’s upcoming bad-guy film Suicide Squad has been released of Jared Leto playing the Joker.

It’s a markedly different take to the character than both Jack Nicholson’s portrayal in 1989’s Batman and Heath Ledger’s 2008 The Dark Knight. Leto’s Joker features tattoos of manic laughter, teeth that will give nightmares and “damaged” across his forehead.

Leto’s pose, grabbing his head in a fit of laughter is also thought to be a nod to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ “The Killing Joke” and the the darkest portrayal of the Joker out of any of the comics.

It’s widely known that Batman v Superman director Zach Snyder is relying heavily upon Frank Miller’s Batman from his acclaimed Dark Knight Returns comics, however, it’s unclear whether or not Suicide Squad director David Ayer will be using any direct comic version for the Joker.

The rest of the cast features an Aussie tinge to it, with Margot Robbie staring as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Will Smith will also be featured as Deadshot, as will Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

Suicide Squad is slated for release in August 2016.
