I Am Michael is based on the true story of gay activist Michael Glatze, who later rejected his homosexuality to become a Christian preacher. The biopic is predicted to shock with many of its confronting scenes, one of which depicts Franco having a threesome with co-stars Quinto and Charlie Carver.

The incredibly talented actor, who also helped produce the film, stars as Michael Glatze.

Quinto plays Bennett, Glatze’s boyfriend of a decade, and spoke about his character during a recent interview: “I like what the character that I play represents in the film, which is integrity and groundedness and authenticity and acceptance of who he is,” he told the Salt Lake Tribune about his role.

The Justin Kelly-directed film also stars Emma Roberts, Daryl Hannah and Leven Rambin.

As for Franco’s other film stirring up plenty of controversy, streaming giant Netflix has announced it will make The Interview available to subscribers in the US and Canada from January 24.

The release of the comedy, also starring Seth Rogen, about a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, was pulled from major cinemas in December in the wake of the Sony hacking scandal.
