The Hollywood hunk looks almost unrecognisable in these pictures, his lank hair slicked back and wide eyes bulging from his painfully thin face.
Fear not, Gyllenhaal fans (Gyllenhaaliacs?): it’s all for a film role.
The usually buff actor underwent an extreme transformation, losing 10 kilos for a gaunt and haggard look, for his role in the upcoming crime thriller Nightcrawler.
Due for release in October, the film is about an out of work man (Gyllenhaal) who stumbles upon the underground world of freelance crime journalism.
So far, the film is being marketed in some pretty inventive ways. The first look at Nightcrawler came, not from a film trailer but from a video originally posted to classifieds site Craigslist.
“My name is Louis Bloom. I’m looking for full-time employment. No job too big or too small. I have my own car and phone. Persistent, punctual, polite and hardworking. Will work nights,” runs the ad, with a link to the intriguing YouTube video below, which shows a rather intense Gyllenhaal trying to score himself a job:
