Hit Disney flick to get a sequel

A NEW Disney sequel will look to mirror the same box-office success its original film had.

Adams played the main character in Disney’s hit film Enchanted but has previously said she thinks the film is perfect as a ‘stand-alone’ piece.

ACTRESS Amy Adams is set to reprise the role that made her famous as Disney films a sequel to the musical hit Enchanted, called Disenchanted, as reported by the Sun.

The five-time Oscar nominee starred as Princess Giselle in the 2007 original, about an animated princess who is transported from the fairy tale kingdom of Andalasia to live-action, modern-day New York — where she swaps her Andalasian suitor Prince Edward for divorce lawyer Robert.

Dempsey’s and Adams’ characters fell in love in Enchanted, a modern twist on Disney’s traditional fairytales.

The follow-up film, set ten years later, sees her “questioning her happily ever after, and accidentally triggering events that will make everyone’s lives turn upside down in both the real world and in the animated kingdom of Andalasia”, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Following the success of Enchanted, which raked in more than £273 million worldwide, Disney had planned the sequel for 2010, but it’s now set to begin filming in 2017.

Shrek 2 writers David Stem and David Weiss put together the script, and Hairspray director Adam Shankman is in talks to direct.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether James Marsden, who played Prince Edward, or Patrick Dempsey, who played Robert, will return.

It’s unclear whether the charismatic James Marsden will return to play the perfectly charming prince for the sequel.

US star Amy, 42, previously said she thought Enchanted was “the perfect stand-alone movie”.

She said: “It has a great beginning, a great middle, and a great end. I watched it recently, because I typically don’t watch my work a lot, and I thought, I really like that movie.

“It was nice to revisit that work and have really positive feelings about it. But I think it works so well.”

Amy followed up her role in Enchanted with acclaimed turns in The Master and American Hustle, among other films.

Later this month she’ll appear in Tom Ford’s thriller Nocturnal Animals, and next month she’ll be seen in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi drama Arrival.

She also stars in upcoming TV series Sharp Objects, based on the novel by Gone Girl writer Gillian Flynn.
