First look at Pennywise the clown in remake of Stephen King’s ‘IT’

THE original 1990 film had one of the scariest movie villains of all time. Now, Pennywise the clown is back — here’s your first look.

TWENTY-SIX years after Pennywise the clown first terrorised a generation of moviegoers, we’ve got our new look at one of cinema’s most terrifying monsters.

Stephen King’s horror classic IT is getting a big-screen remake, just when we’d finally forgotten about Tim Curry’s sickening turn as the sewer-dwelling clown in the original film.

This time around, the story will be split over two films, with the first part to be released in September 2017.

And stepping into those clown shoes? None other than Bill Skarsgard, brother to Alexander and son to Stellan. Take a look:

“It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look,” Skarsgard toldEntertainment Weekly of his ghoulish character, who debuted this first shot.

“It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt,” the actor said.

“What’s funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it’s funny.”

As for the story itself — a gut-churning tale about a monstrous spirit who terrorises seven children, exploiting their various fears and phobias — a producer has described their spin as “fun”.

“It is very close to the source material in one way but very different if you look at it as a literary piece of work,” producer Roy Lee said in February. “We’re taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel. But it’s gonna be a really fun way of making this movie.”
