THE new trailer for The Danish Girl has dropped, featuring Eddie Redmayne in yet another physically challenging role.

The Oscar winner transforms into a transgender woman named Lili Elbe in the film, which is based on the true story of famous Danish artist Einar Wegener.

“That fact is ... I believe that I am a woman,” Redmayne’s character says in the emotional clip.

Elbe was one of the first transgender women identified in history to have received sex reassignment surgery in 1930.

In a recent interview with OUT magazine, the 33-year-old actor said: “I felt like, I’m being given this extraordinary experience of being able to play this woman, but with that comes this responsibility of not only educating myself but hopefully using that to educate [the audience].”

Redmayne — who won the Best Actor Oscar in February for his incredible portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything — has reunited with his Les Miserables director Tom Hooper for The Danish Girl.

Swedish actress Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) also stars in the film as Wegener’s wife.

Hollywood is already abuzz with suggestions that Redmayne’s performance could earn him back-to-back Oscars.

The Danish Girl hits cinemas on December 26.
