In the trailer Hugh, who plays Robert Crawley, 7th Earl of Grantham, gets a letter from the royal family announcing the visit of George V and Queen Mary, The Sun reports.

Michelle, who plays Lady Mary Talbot, looks ecstatic at the news, while Maggie Smith — the Dowager Countess of Grantham — isn’t so enthralled.

While rolling her eyes, she sarcastically says: “Here we go.”

Meanwhile, downstairs the servants are just as excited with Lesley Nicol, who plays cook Beryl Patmore, starting her preparations.

Hugh Bonneville is back as Lord Grantham.

All of the famous cast has returned, apart from Lily James who played Lady Rose.

The popular TV series ended in 2015 with an episode that aired on Christmas Day.

The film’s screenplay was written by the show’s creator, Julian Fellowes.

Laura Carmichael, who plays Downton’s Lady Edith Crawley, told the Radio Times being reunited with her co-stars was “so much fun, we had such a dreamy time”.

She said: “It’s much quicker doing a film than eight episodes of a series, so it felt like a holiday with mates. It was nostalgic.

“All of us always felt that if Julian Fellowes wrote it we’d do it. We’re so fond of our characters and what that job did for all of us.

“We really care about it and have a lot of affection for it. We hope it’s not destroying the image we left you with.”

The King and Queen are coming to visit in the Downton Abbey movie.

The sixth and final series of Downton Abbey was set in 1925 after Hitler had released Mein Kampf but before he had seized control of Germany.

While the series finale showed the beginning of the end for the British aristocracy, the upcoming movie could show the impact of the Wall Street financial crash in 1929.
