Daniel Radcliffe on losing his virginity: ‘I had a really good first time’

THE Harry Potter star reckons he’s one of the few people “who seem to have had a really good first time”, and sex is definitely better sober.

DANIEL Radcliffe is no longer the little wizard we all know and love.

The 25-year-old actor has successfully shed his Harry Potter image, having starred in a number of dark and serious roles — one which even required him to get naked onstage.

Radcliffe, who was just 11 when he began filming the first Harry Potter movie, has now opened up about losing his virginity and his struggle to maintain his sobriety.

“I’m one of the few people who seem to have had a really good first time,” he told Elle magazine.

“It was with somebody I’d gotten to know well,” the Broadway star revealed. “I’m happy to say I’ve had a lot better sex since then, but it wasn’t as horrendously embarrassing as a lot of other people’s were — like my friend who got drunk and did it with a stranger under a bridge.”

The Woman in Black star has been open about his battle with alcohol abuse in the past, admitting he struggled with drinking while filming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009.

And in this latest interview he spoke candidly about his sexual experiences since giving up booze in 2010. “For some people sex might be better drunk, but for me, and the person I’m doing it with, it’s much better sober.”

The actor, who is dating his Kill Your Darlings co-star Erin Darke, shot down rumours that the pair were engaged but did share his thoughts on marriage. “It seems like the most romantic thing you can do is stand up in front of all your friends and say that you love this person,” he said.

On getting nude in front of a live audience for his role in the 2007 revival of Equus, he admitted he was “fairly comfortable with it”.

“There’s something to be said for getting naked onstage when you’re 17. I was f**king terrified then. I went out with quite a few girls at that time. I would normally follow that up with, ‘Oh, cool, you’ve seen me naked’.”

Radcliffe stars in the upcoming romantic comedy What If, alongside Zoe Kazan and Girls star Adam Driver.
