China has come up with its own Mad Max movie

A CHINESE film studio has come up with its own version of Aussie director’s George Miller’s hit film Mad Max: Fury Road — and it’s pretty weird.

THE Oscar-winning blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road wasn’t released in China, which is the best explanation we have for what you’re about to see.

Beijing-based studio New Film Media is soon to release its own version of Australian director George Miller’s 2015 hit film, gloriously titled Mad Shelia.

From the movie posters to pretty much everything in the trailer, Mad Shelia appears to borrow heavily from Mad Max: Fury Road, emulating the film’s style, costumes and plot.

The movie follows a young woman who is being pursued by a biker gang in a post-apocalyptic desert wasteland and eventually takes her revenge in a story not dissimilar to that of Charlize Theron’s character Imperator Furiosa in the original film.

“Mad Max is the biggest winner at this year’s Oscars,” director Lu Lei wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo. “Our Mad Shelia salutes!”

According to the Shanghaiist, the rip-off flick was filmed in Inner Mongolia and two sequels are already in the works: Mad Shelia: Virgin Road and Mad Shelia: Vengeance Road.

Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth instalment of Miller’s Mad Max franchise starring Theron, Tom Hardy and a star-studded cast of Australian actors, was critically acclaimed as one of the best films of 2015 and won six Academy Awards, including best production design and best film editing.
