FORGET Batman v Superman — some of Marvel’s most iconic characters are set to declare war against each other in the much-anticipated Captain America: Civil War.
It is the third entry in what is arguably an unusual comic book trilogy, but expectations are high as it was directed by the Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo), who were responsible for the fan favourite Captain America: The Winter Soldier. They will now take over the reigns from Joss Whedon for the upcoming Avengers films.
Although Marvel has kept relatively quiet about the plot of the film, the trailer reveals it builds upon the Steve Rogers/Bucky relationship from the previous movies.
But the most exciting development of the film will be seeing the Avengers team split down the middle with Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye and Falcon siding with Captain America against Iron Man.
The trailer also features the long-awaited first appearance of Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/the Black Panther, who is set to headline his own film in 2018.
However, the most noticeable absence from the trailer was Tom Holland, who was cast as the new Peter Parker/Spider-Man specifically for this film.
Reactions to the trailer on social media have been largely positive, with many glad the film didn’t turn into another Avengers film.
